Narrative

Research is hard.  It is the most boring part of a project, for sure!  If your project is on something recent, you will NOT find a lot of information in books.  Another bump in the road, is that my project has to do with science, and science equals experiments which equal research.  So in my project, The Effects of People and Animals of the Gulf Oil Spill, I decided to look at magazine articles, online newspapers and blogs.  I found people’s opinions, facts, and lots of disturbing pictures.

The most interesting part of my project was also the most fun.  Making my Animoto was Ms. Colque’s idea, inspired by Jacob’s previous project.    I got some great pictures from National Geographic.  I had fun looking at all the pictures, but I couldn’t spend too long finding them, because I had research to do, and what I’m trying to avoid saying, is that they made me sad.  My Animoto was definitely the part of my project I think I did best on. It should be located above my Narrative.

Even though this project was science based, I feel like I did more writing than anything.  I wrote a magazine article which I am planning to submit to a few magazine or newspapers--keep your fingers crossed that I get published--a science paper, and the narrative!  I had Mr. Johnson’s help with writing and I always like hearing his suggestions.  I also had a few peers judge my work, but everyone knows that your friends aren’t going to criticize your writing, no matter how bad it is.  After I finished my article I felt really proud of it, and I am glad I got to write about something I was interested in, including my opinion instead of just stating facts.  I cannot say the same for my science paper, but I don’t feel that needs any explanation.

At first, I struggled the social studies part of the project, I was just not willing to do any research.  Then, I tried a few different search engines and talked to Ms. Colque, and found some useful information.  Trust me, the five themes of geography are your friends, except for climate, he’s a tough one.  This project really showed that I know how to use the five themes.

My project was long, hard, and time consuming.   I stayed up much too late too many times working on it.   But it was interesting, fun, and allowed me to learn about our waters.  If you have any questions about the spill, please, come talk to me.  I would be more than happy to give you a twenty minute lecture on it.  The other option is to look at my Animoto.  I hope you enjoy my page, I am exhausted now that I know I can sleep, and I hope you can respect me for this.
